The MACC is looking to question former Malaysian defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein and two Saudi princes over the alleged misappropriation of funds by government intelligence officers, according to the lawyer Shaharudin Ali.
Shaharudin, who represents Former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) director-general Hasanah Abdul Hamid, said that this was revealed by a deputy public prosecutor during his client's remand hearing today.
The MACC, he noted, used the questioning of Hishammuddin and the Saudi princes as one of their nine reasons to extend Hasanah's remand by seven days.
“What is shocking are two things: Hishammuddin’s name was mentioned as among the people who may be investigated by MACC in relation to Hasanah and seven other MEIO officers. So, they said they are interviewing Hishammuddin soon.
“The MACC also said they are tracing two Saudi princes. I have no idea how these people are involved. I’m made to understand that MACC wants to do all these in the seven days that they’ve asked for...
“Hasanah has denied that Hishammuddin and the two Saudi princes are involved in any way in this case,” he told reporters.
Malaysiakini has reached out to the MACC for further details and is contacting Hishammuddin for a response.

The lawyer added that the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court only granted a one-day extension to Hasanah’s remand instead of the seven days the MACC sought. She is expected to be released by 5pm tomorrow.
She was arrested by the commission on Aug 28, and was slapped with a five-day remand the following day.
This is in relation to the alleged misappropriation of funds by government intelligence officers, for which she and seven other officers were arrested.
In arguing against the MACC's request for remand extension, Shaharudin said he told the court that his client should not be encumbered by the slow progress of the investigation.
He also said the original five-day remand should have been adequate for the MACC to conduct its investigation.
As for Hasanah, Shaharudin said the former spymaster told the court that she has had many dealings with Saudi intelligence services involving state secrets, and that not anyone (bukan calang-calang orang) could inquire about these. - Mkini
