SEVERAL Umno lawmakers have been approached to join Bersatu, said Annuar Musa.
The party secretary-general said several MPs were approached and then a few others sought to join the ruling coalition and swap parties.
There are those who were approached directly and also there are those who were wooed via middleman. The core idea is to strengthen Bersatu,” Annuar told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
The Ketereh lawmaker added that personally he would stick with Umno as that was the mandate he was given by his constituents.
“It is not that we did not consider it. We understand that Bersatu is weak with 13 seats and might not be stable… but we have a bigger responsibility.
“We won on a Barisan Nasional ticket. We have a personal responsibility to the people who voted for us,” Annuar said.
Bersatu supreme council member A Kadir Jasin said 40 Umno parliamentarians are about to jump ship to Bersatu.
Last week, former trade and industries minister Mustapa Mohamed joined Bersatu after quitting Umno in September.
Annuar said Mustapha took an easy way out by quitting Umno instead of remaining with the opposition party.
“If I wanted to have a good life, I would be like Tok Pa (Mustapa) but we all have our respective ways. I want to still serve the party.”
