Rafizi wins Pandan but faces setbacks in deputy president contest

PKR POLLS | Rafizi Ramli has won in the contest for the Pandan PKR chief position but faced setbacks in the race for the PKR deputy president position.
The former Pandan MP garnered 566 votes against rivals Haniza Mohd Talha (405 votes), Nor Hayati Haron (353 votes) and Mohamad Shauki Mohd Kashim (71 votes) for the position of division chief, according to unofficial results.
However, the Pandan PKR division went for incumbent Azmin Ali over Rafizi in the PKR deputy president race.
Azmin garnered 715 votes against Rafizi's 508 in the contest for the party's No 2 position.
Azmin is the Selangor PKR chief and also the state's former menteri besar.
Rafizi faced a bigger setback in the neighbouring Ampang division, where Azmin's righthand woman Zuraida Kamaruddin is the incumbent. Zuraida is also the Selangor PKR deputy chief.
According to unofficial results, the Ampang division contributed 1,151 votes to Azmin for the position of deputy president compared to 178 votes for Rafizi, a staggering 973-vote advantage.
For context, the majority in that division alone is more than that of the whole state of Penang, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Federal Territories, Perlis or Kedah.
However, the huge vote majority for Azmin in Ampang is expected to be neutralised by Rafizi's major win in Perak yesterday, where he won 61 percent of the votes and a 2,341-vote advantage.
The final tally is still not clear as results from the last round of voting in Selangor is still flowing in.
Meanwhile, Rafizi's ally Rodziah Ismail, who is also contesting for the Wanita chief, was defeated in the Shah Alam division chief position.
Rodziah got 599 votes against rival Yaakob Sapari's 663 votes. The other two candidates were Tengku Ahmad Tengku Kasim (206 votes) and Adnan Jamburi (158 votes).
