Fuzi: Cops doing their best to restore temple situation

IPOH: The situation at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25 Subang Jaya is almost back to normal, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
He said that although a group of between 25 and 30 people gathered there on Thursday afternoon (Nov 29), nothing untoward took place.
Mohamad Fuzi said the police are trying their best to bring the situation back to normal.
“I hope the people and the parties involved will respectively control their emotions and sentiments.
“I also hope that no parties will make statements that can create tension. If everyone makes responsible statements, I am confident we (police) will be able to restore law and order,” he told a press conference after witnessing the handing over of duties of the Perak police chief at the police officer’s mess hall here.
Mohamad Fuzi said just before he left for Perak this morning, a total of 42 suspects have been arrested over the fracas.
On another matter, Mohamad Fuzi confirmed the arrest of Umno Youth’s Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris over the latter’s Facebook video post that allegedly spread racial hatred.
He said the arrest was made due to his statement inciting racial hatred, and trying to get people’s sentiment by raising religious issues.
“Those using social media tools to create unrest, we will take action,” he warned.
On a police report lodged by Pakatan Harapan secretariat chief and Batu Gajah MP V.Sivakumar on the alleged coup attempt in Perak, Mohamad Fuzi said the police would be opening an investigation paper over the matter.
“We will decide to take necessary action in the near future, and will see accordingly who will be called to provide statements.
“We are aware of the claims that people are trying to topple the Mentri Besar and the state government, and necessary steps are being taken by the police,” he added.- Star
