BFM investigating sexual harassment allegations at station

BFM 89.9 is investigating allegations made concerning various instances of sexual harassment at the radio station.
The allegations were made in an email received by Malaysiakini, which detailed incidences involving several employees.
It was further alleged that the company management had been aware of these occurrences but have yet to take action.
When contacted, BFM founder Malek Ali told Malaysiakini "we are investigating the matter as we speak."
In a later statement Malek said the company was, however, "unable to confirm any of the situations described" at this juncture.
"We are committed to providing a safe environment in which all members of our community can work without fear and threat of sexual harassment.
"We take all allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct seriously. Internal investigations are initiated whenever an allegation is made.
"Our practice has been to offer employees discretion and fairness, and we take action when we learn of unacceptable behaviour," the statement read.
Malek added that the company will be reviewing its reporting mechanisms for staff to ensure "safe channels for these serious matters to be escalated and dealt with".
Malaysiakini is withholding the details of the accusations and the identities of those accused pending confirmation. - Mkini
