Dr M promises better days ahead despite Najib's doom and gloom

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad last night promised better days ahead for Malaysia, in contrast to the doom and gloom former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had warned of.
Speaking to thousands of visitors who were in Putrajaya for the New Year's Day countdown, Mahathir said Malaysians can expect more in 2019 but also urged them to work harder.
"There is much more enjoyment (nikmat) that will be obtained in 2019.
"I am confident we can work together to build this country and it is up to us to shape its future.
"We need to work harder in 2019 so to achieve the status of a developed nation," he added.
Najib, in a Facebook Live session yesterday, had warned that Malaysia was facing tougher times ahead.
He highlighted the declining stock market, Bank Negara's foreign exchange reserve and the slowing economic growth.
"2019 will be a challenging year for the people," he said.
