140,000 households yet to register for electricity bill rebate

PUTRAJAYA: More than 140,000 households have yet to register for the monthly electricity bill rebate of RM40 for the poor and hardcore poor.
There are 208,800 eligible heads of households registered with the e-Kasih system but only 66,600 are receiving the rebate, says Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin.
Recipients must be registered and verified under the e-Kasih system.
“Our data shows 142,200 eligible household heads under the e-Kasih system who are still not registered with utility companies such as Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) or the Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB),” she told a press conference yesterday.
Yeo said there were two reasons why the registration for the rebates did not hit the target.

Firstly, these heads of household do not have an account for the electricity bill as it could have been registered under the names of other family members.
The other reason is that these families are living in rented properties, thus their utility bills are registered under the landlord’s name.
“In such cases, I urge those who are eligible to immediately register their electricity bill account with TNB, SESB or SEB.”- Star
