Babysitter charged with murder of one-year-old boy

SIBU: A 39-year-old babysitter has been charged at the magistrate's court here with the murder of a nine-month-old boy at Jalan Permai Jaya three weeks ago.

Hayati Yaman was accused of the offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code by allegedly causing the death of Aariz Harraz Zahim Azman between 5.45am and 12.30pm on Jan 7 at her Permai Jaya residence where she operated an illegal child care centre.

No plea was taken from the accused who remained silent when the charge was read to her on Monday (Jan 28).

The court set Feb 28 for mention of the case Aariz had died on Jan 13 at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sibu Hospital from serious head injuries, having been rushed to the hospital on Jan 7 where he was admitted in a critical condition with bleeding in the brain and in both eyes.

The parents - both schoolteachers - had dropped Aariz off at the babysitter's at 5.45am on Jan 7 before work at their school, but returned after receiving a call that he was experiencing breathing difficulties.- Star
