MAHATHIR UNVEILS GRAND PLAN TO STOP CORRUPTION: BUT AS LONG AS ‘WORST EXAMPLE’ NAJIB – ENDORSED BY UMNO & PAS – IS LEFT TO ROAM FREE, WHO WILL FEEL FRIGHTENED?

PUTRAJAYA – The government today launched a five-year plan to crack down on widespread corruption among civil servants, with a series of initiatives that promises to fight graft in a comprehensive manner.
“Today is a historical day for Malaysia because for the first time we are launching a comprehensive anti-graft plan,” Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said at the launching of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) 2019-2023 today, attended by ministers and senior civil servants.
He said the previous National Intergrity Plan failed to curb corruption, adding that NACP, with the tagline “Break the Corruption Chain”, would be more effective.
The plan focusses on six sectors including government procurements, law enforcement, public sector administration and judiciary.

It said 22 strategies and 115 initiatives would be implemented to crack down on corruption.
They include drafting laws on political financing and placing the National Audit Department under Parliament.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar said civil servants were a “high risk” group when it comes to corruption.
He said some 40% of those convicted of corruption between 2011 and 2015 were civil servants.
PAS, Umno leaders back Putrajaya’s new plan to fight corruption
PUTRAJAYA – The top leaders of PAS and Umno were among opposition leaders who were present at the launch of a new five-year plan by the Pakatan Harapan government.
Acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan welcomed the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) 2019-2023, which aims to crack down on widespread corruption among civil servants.
“I have not studied the plan, but it is a good initiative to ensure corruption is eradicated,” he said when met at the event today.
NACP was launched by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, attended by senior civil servants and ministers.
The plan includes 115 initiatives which the government hopes to implement within one to five years, in a bid to ensure a corruption-free nation through measures promoting good governance, accountability and transparency.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang also expressed his support for NACP, saying it was a collective duty to fight graft.
“PAS values integrity and transparency in governance, and we are open to cooperating with everyone to cleanse Malaysia of corruption,” he said.
