Supermarket supervisor held for allegedly hurting girl caught shoplifting


SIBU: A supermarket supervisor has been arrested for allegedly injuring a 10-year-old girl after she was caught stealing a colouring book.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said on Wednesday (Jan 30) that the victim suffered a broken teeth after being slapped by the 22-year-old suspect.
"There are also bruises on her left thigh and left eye after she was pushed forcefully against the wall," he added.
The girl, he said was caught red-handed stealing a colouring book by a female shopkeeper of the supermarket at Jalan Chiew Siik Hiong at 7.30pm on Monday (Jan 28).
"The woman then brought her to the suspect who forced her to sweep the floor of a store room. After that he tied her legs to prevent her from escaping," he said.
It was there that the suspect assaulted her before letting her go an hour later.
"The girl went home crying and told her grandmother of the matter," she added.
A police report was later lodged by the victim's grandfather, which led to the arrest of the man at 2pm the next day.
ACP Stanley said the suspect would be remanded Wednesday (Jan 30) for investigation under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntary causing hurt to the victim.- Star
