Anwar calls for Semenyih support so Harapan can further national reforms

SEMENYIH POLLS |
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim (photo, above) has urged the people of Semenyih to support Pakatan Harapan so it can carry out reforms in the country.

He said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was striving to revive the nation after serious damage inflicted by the previous government.
‘’We must remember today that Mahathir became the prime minister because the people, regardless of whether they are Malay, Chinese, Indian or from Sabah and Sarawak, have risen to reject Umno and Barisan Nasional.
‘’We rejected (BN) because the nation was rich but it had been robbed of this wealth,’’ he said in his speech at the Harapan Semenyih Culture Night event in Bandar Rinching in Semenyih last night.
Anwar further appealed to the people to give the government a little bit of time to carry out promises in its general election manifesto.
‘’Wait, slowly. What is important is that we want to ensure no one else will steal the nation’s riches, slowly we bring changes,’’ he said.
He also promised that the government would not compromise if any Harapan leaders were to take advantage of the national wealth.
Manifesto promises implemented 'in stages'
Meanwhile at the same event, Harapan deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin assured that the GE14 election manifesto promises are being implemented in stages.
Muhyiddin (photo, above), who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, said he fully understood that the people were eager and wanted all the pledges to be delivered soon, but he also called on the people to be patient.
He said it was unfair for the people to judge the new government only after nine months taking over the country’s administration simply because of the failure to implement the manifesto.
“We (Harapan government) have started providing and delivering all forms of assistance and help to those in need.
“Nine months (administering the country) is not long, and this is not giving excuses of not doing anything but to explain (that) people need to be fair to the Harapan government,” he said in his speech.

Muhyiddin, who is also Home Minister, and Anwar attended the event as part of campaign efforts for the coming Semenyih state by-election this Saturday (March 2).
The polls will witness a four-cornered fight between Muhammad Aiman Zainali (Harapan), Zakaria Hanafi (BN), Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul (PSM) and independent Kuan Chee Heng.
The Semenyih state by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, 57, on Jan 11, due to a heart attack.
