Muhyiddin defends Lim as finance minister, says 'Bossku will sapu habis'

SEMENYIH POLLS |
Pakatan Harapan deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin has defended Lim Guan Eng's appointment as finance minister on the grounds of integrity.

Therefore, he argued that the issue of race and religion were immaterial as mentioned by BN secretary-general Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Speaking at a ceramah in a Malay-majority area in Semenyih last night, the former deputy premier also took a swipe at his ex-boss, Najib Abdul Razak, who is facing a slew of court charges.
"Who was the finance minister before Guan Eng? It was Najib (who uses the moniker) 'Bossku'.
"He is a Malay, but if he becomes the finance minister (again), he would sapu habis (sweep everything). I think he has committed a crime against the Malay race.
"The principal question is not about race and this is not a racial issue. The question is about integrity. Anyone entrusted with these responsibilities should have integrity," he added.
In 2015, Najib, who was prime minister at the time, had dropped Muhyiddin from his cabinet over the latter's views regarding the 1MDB scandal.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also pointed out that Lim does not have absolute say in matters pertaining to the nation's finances.
He added that these decisions are made with the cabinet's approval.
During a ceramah in Semenyih over the weekend, Nazri said only Muslims should be appointed as the chief justice, attorney-general and finance minister.

He said that non-Muslims do not swear on the Quran when taking their oath of office.
Apart from this, Nazri said Malays should not be faulted for thinking that the authorities are not prosecuting anyone in connection with the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim since the attorney-general Tommy Thomas and the suspects are of the “same skin colour.”
The police are investigating Nazri, who is also a former law minister, under the Sedition Act 1948 over his remarks. - Mkini
