When govt too strong, it’s corruption-prone, Najib tells Semenyih voters

PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak has made a final appeal to voters in Semenyih to reject Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the by-election tomorrow, reminding them that a government that is too strong is “not good for the people”.
“A government that is too strong is also prone to corruption,” the former prime minister said in a letter addressed to the more than 53,000 voters in the state constituency.
Adding that the outcome of the by-election would not affect the PH-controlled state government, Najib said an additional seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) in Selangor would strengthen the opposition’s voice in the state assembly.
He said after two terms of power, the state government had yet to solve problems such as cleanliness, rubbish collection and steep commercial property prices, adding that Selangor’s economy had taken a hit with many losing their jobs.
Najib said voters need to send a message to PH that they will not accept the government’s excuses not to implement the promises in the coalition’s manifesto.
“If PH wins again, we are giving them a signal that they can still win even by breaking their promises and lying to us. We cannot allow this to go on,” he wrote, adding that voters should embrace BN’s “positive politics” as opposed to the politics of “slander and personal attacks”.
The Semenyih state seat fell vacant following the death of PPBM’s Bakhtiar Mohd Nor on Jan 11.
The by-election will see a four-cornered fight between PH’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali, Zakaria Hanafi of BN, Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul from PSM and independent Kuan Chee Heng. - FMT
