Noh says ‘no’ to Nga suspending him, ‘yes’ to Ariff showing him the exit

BN lawmaker Noh Omar has accepted Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof’s decision to uphold his three-day suspension by deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming earlier.

The Tanjong Karang MP had challenged Nga’s ruling issued at the start of today’s proceeding on the grounds that it was made in his absence.

He had entered the Dewan Rakyat shortly before lunch break at 1pm and raised an objection with deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon who was presiding over the session.

Ariff, who presided after the Dewan Rakyat resumed at 2pm, noted Noh’s objection and gave the Umno lawmaker a chance to defend himself against Nga’s ruling.

“I respect the decision made by the current speaker under Standing Order 44.

“But I don’t respect the ruling made by deputy speaker from Telok Intan (Nga) this morning because I was absent,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby after finally accepting his suspension order.

Noh also refused to retract his statement in the House that Nga was unfit to be a speaker, which led to his suspension.

In defending himself earlier after Affif provided him with the chance to do so, the BN lawmaker once again insisted that he was only seeking clarification from Nga over the latter’s “Taliban” jibe.

Ariff went on to read excerpts from Noh’s speech yesterday based on the hansard and the latter admitted to having accused Nga of being unfit to be a speaker.

“I have given (Noh) a chance to defend yourself, I have read the hansard, and I will explain once again that whatever happened outside (the House) is politics and whatever happens inside must be dealt with here.

“As the speaker, I have found that what was said by Yang Berhormat (Noh) is clearly a challenge to the speaker. So I have decided to uphold the ruling,” stressed Ariff, who adjourned the afternoon proceedings for 15 minutes after Noh initially refused to leave.

Meanwhile, Nga vented his frustration against Noh on Twitter.

Among others, he said, all MPs are paid allowances and must attend Dewan Rakyat proceedings.

“Noh must ask himself why he did not attend parliament when the speaker read out his suspension order. This type of arrogance must be avoided,” he added.
