KOTA KINABALU: Luyang state assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe, who is Sabah’s youth and sports minister, is on a shortlist of 20 nominated by an international charity for the One Young World Politician of the Year award.
Five winners will be chosen from the 20 by the One Young World organisation in October.
Phoong, 30, who is DAP Youth’s national publicity secretary, said he was taken aback when he received an email from a few days ago informing him about the nomination.
He said he will travel to London in October to attend the awards ceremony at the annual One Young World Summit.
Phoong said he was the only nominee from Malaysia and Asean on the shortlist.
The other 19 include nominees from India, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, Israel, the United States and Britain.
