PETALING JAYA: Perak police have lodged a police report against a Facebook user for alleging that a forensic report of the investigation into a rape claim against a state executive councillor has gone missing.
Perak police chief Razarudin Husain said the Facebook user, using the handle “1 Malaysia Tolak DAP”, would be investigated under Section 233 of Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.
Describing the posting as irresponsible, he said: “It is a slanderous accusation challenging the integrity of the police who are carrying out the probe in the most transparent way.”
In a statement, Razarudin said the Facebook user wrote: “The forensic report of Perak DAP Exco is missing. How can it go missing. Are there hidden hands instructing for the forensic report to squashed.”
He advised all parties not to speculate on the issue as it could jeopardise the investigation into the rape complaint and the image of the police.
Police had said earlier they had taken statements from the complainant – a 23-year-old Indonesian maid – as well as the exco member.
Razarudin said a forensics team had also collected evidence for analysis.
He said statements had also been recorded from several witnesses, including family members of the councillor.
Previously, MCA Wanita chief Heng Seai Kie had warned against any interference in the police investigation into the rape allegation.
She said the allegation was serious and called for the police to investigate without fear or favour. - FMT
