KOTA BHARU: More than RM16 million has been raised by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) from an online vehicle number plate bidding system which was introduced in six regions in April
Now registration numbers in the ‘DDP’ series for Kelantan, and ‘CEE’ series for Pahang have become available in the online system, in the first joint bidding for numbers in two states.
JPJ vehicle licensing division director Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the bidding price is based on categories. The reserve price of the most valuable number is RM20,000, followed by RM3,000 for attractive numbers, RM800 for popular numbers and RM300 for normal numbers.
In each category, there will be a minimum bid increase of 5% according to the price of the number. Payments can only be made via local credit or debit cards, he said.
Mohd Rusdi said private bidders could bid for a maximum of three registration numbers, while companies were allowed a maximum of five numbers. A service fee of RM10 is charged for each bid.
He said 14 series of bids were made through the system, called JPJeBid, when it was implemented in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Kedah, Penang, Sabah and Johor.
“Now, we are launching the JPJeBid system for Kelantan and Pahang and we expect it to be implemented in all the states by the end of November,” he said at the Kelantan JPJ office today.
Mohd Rusdi said the system offers transparency, as the process from registration to payments involves transactions that are made without human intervention.
Bids for numbers in the DDP and CEE series would be open for five days from 12.01am on Aug 30 until 11.59 pm on Sept 3. Results would be announced on Sept 4. Successful bidders must register the vehicle number within 12 months after receiving the offer letter from JPJ. - FMT
