Wee: Why talk about flying cars when the KLIA has serious issues?

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong took to social media to lament the disruption at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“The Flight Information Display System (FIDS) in KLIA is still malfunctioning. Sometimes it works all right and sometimes it doesn’t work.
“So far there has not been any official statement on the matter. There must be a reason (behind the malfunction) that must be identified, ” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Aug 29).
The Ayer Hitam MP then took a swipe at the flying car project that was announced by the Entrepreneur Development Ministry.

“What is the point of talking about the flying car if serious issues at the ‘gateways’ of the country cannot even be resolved?” he asked.

His post had a picture of himself at the KLIA, looking exasperated.
On Aug 22, both terminals at KLIA faced systems disruption, which affected the WiFi connections, the FIDS, the check-in counters and the baggage handling system.
Network failure has been identified as the cause of disruption at the airport, with equipment being replaced and monitored for stability.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) had to deploy staff members to assist travellers and passengers on the ground.
The situation at KLIA was back to normal on Aug 26 morning, although the FIDS at the Departure Hall was not working.
The Transport Ministry has formed a committee to look into the network failure at the airport, with MAHB not ruling out the possibility that it could have been caused by an “act of malicious intent”.
MAHB also lodged a police report over the matter, and police confirmed that an investigation would be carried out under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
