‘DAP IS NOT MONEY-RICH, THEY EVEN NEED TO ORGANIZE DINNERS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THEMSELVES’ – MAT SABU DENIES AMANAH FINANCED BY DAP

AMANAH has rubbished claims that the party is funded by DAP, which is also often accused of being the party that calls the shots in Pakatan Harapan and in policymaking.
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said DAP was incapable of financing Amanah, adding that his best friend, Lim Guan Eng, who is the party secretary-general, did not have the means to do such a thing.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu said Amanah needed only a minimal amount to operate and that the costs did not run into the millions of ringgit as alleged by certain parties.
“DAP is not money rich. They even (need to) organise dinners to raise funds. It is all people’s perception (that DAP is rich).

“Those who accuse us of using money are the ones who usually have enough money to play politics,” he said in an interview published by Malay daily Mingguan Malaysia.
He said this in response to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s allegations that DAP was involved in the creation and funding of Amanah.
Zahid had said this when confronted with questions on PAS allegedly receiving RM90 million from Umno-linked 1MDB.
In the interview, the Mohamad also defended DAP from accusations of being anti-Islam.
He said although some of party members might appear so, he did not view the party as a whole to be against the religion.
He said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang had been for the introduction of  Jawi lessons in the vernacular schools.
“DAP itself is not (anti-Islam). There may be individuals but that is another matter.
Kit Siang is one of the few leaders in DAP who approved of the government policy to teach Jawi to Year 4 pupils next year.
The decision was opposed by the majority of the party leaders and the Federation of Chinese School Board of Trustees (Dong Zong), who view it as creeping Islamisation.
The government has since changed its policy several times.
Mohamad said the issue had been misinterpreted and that the Chinese had no problems studying Jawi.
