PONTIAN: Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says a special lane at the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) will be opened for Singapore-based Tanjung Piai voters to return to vote in the by-election there on Nov 16.
Speaking to reporters after the Tanjung Piai by-election nominations at the Dewan Jubli Intan here, Muhyiddin said he had discussed the matter with the Immigration Department to make it easier for voters to return to vote.
“If they (voters) show that they are residents of Pontian and want to vote, we will prepare a special lane so they can arrive quickly before the end of voting on Nov 16.”
He said the special lane will be opened just before midnight on Nov 16 until the evening the same day.
Meanwhile, PPBM’s Karmaine Sardini said he hoped to get full support from the Pakatan Harapan machinery.
The by-election for the parliamentary seat will see a six-cornered fight involving Karmaine, BN’s Wee Jeck Seng, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam, Berjasa’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz and independents Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar. - FMT
