PAS Youth has been urged to provide proof that there is a legal provision in the Kelantan state laws which sets the need to change the official vehicle every 10 years.
Kelantan Pakatan Harapan legal bureau director Hisham Fauzi (above) raised this matter in refuting the reason given by PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin on the purchase of 14 units of Mercedes Benz by the state government.
“I am contesting the claim by the PAS Youth chief who said it is in the state laws which states that every 10 years the state government’s official vehicles, including the menteri besar’s, have to be changed and only a Mercedes Benz can be used.
“I hope he can give further clarification and provide proof that there is such a legal provision.
“If before this he was so vocal in criticising the proposal to change the federal government’s official vehicles from Proton to Toyota, he changed his opinion in a flash when it involved their own party leadership,” he told Malaysiakini in Kota Bharu today.
It was reported yesterday that Khairil (photo) defended the Kelantan government’s move to purchase Mercedes Benz cars.
He had pointed to a supposed legal provision in the state laws where official state vehicles must be changed after 10 years and only Mercedes Benz vehicles can be used.
Meanwhile, Hisham said that when the federal government had proposed changing their official vehicles, Khairil had criticised and mocked the idea by asking why they did not just fix the existing vehicles if the federal government was lacking funds.
“This is proof of the PAS leaders’ flip-flop attitude.
“When it involves other people, it will immediately become haram but when it involves them, all sorts of excuses and reasons will flow like the water to make what they did halal,” he said. - Mkini
