KOTA KINABALU: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) today stated it wants Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue to take the lead in the federal government.
Upko has one MP, through its president Wilfred Madius Tangau.
Tangau said the decision came following an emergency Supreme Council meeting at the party’s headquarters.
“This morning, I chaired the meeting to resolve our stand in the ongoing leadership crisis at the federal government.
“Upko does not want this crisis to prolong. Our decision is consistent with our move on May 10, 2018, when we left Barisan Nasional to work with Warisan and Pakatan Harapan, to form a new mixed Sabah government.
“The party’s Supreme Council had unanimously supported the leadership of Dr Mahathir Mohamad to continue leading and defending the mandate given by Malaysians and PH in GE14,” he said.
The political crisis entered its seventh day today with two blocs claiming to have enough MPs to form the majority and subsequently form the federal government.
PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin has the support of Umno, PAS and a group led by former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali. Mahathir has the support of PH’s DAP, Amanah and PKR. - FMT
