Anwar: Azmin's supporters not privy to backdoor deals

Some of Azmin Ali's supporters within PKR have expressed remorse because they did not know of his plans, said party president Anwar Ibrahim.
"They were not privy on some of the backdoor deals undertaken by some (then) leaders of the party. They themselves felt betrayed.
"I have cautioned them some time back. This has been brewing for months... (Azmin's) followers are innocent.
"Nobody told them that there is this conspiracy to topple the government (to form) a backdoor government," he told reporters at his party headquarters.

It has been an emotional afternoon at PKR's headquarters where supporters have been converging following the swearing-in of Muhyiddin Yassin as the new prime minister.
The party's lawmakers and office bearers were meeting inside. When some known Azmin allies attempted to leave the building, they were attacked by the party supporters who accused them of treachery.
Azmin had led 10 other MPs to defect to Bersatu, which in turn formed an alliance with Umno, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and several smaller parties to support Muhyiddin.
Many PKR lawmakers who were aligned to Azmin during the last PKR leadership elections in 2018 are still with the party.
When asked how many of Azmin's supporters who are lawmakers attended the party meeting today, Anwar said all lawmakers were present.
"All were here. To me, that faction is a thing of the past," he said.
