ROME (Reuters) - Italy wrong path in fighting coronavirus : scientist
Italy's measures do not seem to be working
in last three days 5,000 to 6,000 new infections per day
world's highest death toll despite three weeks lockdown
highest daily death toll was Friday, 919 fatalities
only slightly lower in following two days
should change strategy to separate people with symptoms from families
many new cases being infected by fellow family members at home
instead of self-isolate at home, set up centers to separate them from families
as was done in China where the epidemic originated in December.
- why despite restrictive measures, we are still seeing infections?
- people who are sick at home are infecting their family
- the infections are happening at home
in Italy's affluent Veneto, blanket testing introduced in Feb
identified cases and limited contagion much more successfully than Lombardy
In Lombardy only people with severe symptoms are tested, and only in hospitals.
(OSTB : This was also the case in Malaysian hospitals. Please note.)
Lombardy hardest hit with 6,360 coronavirus deaths
whereas Veneto recorded just 392 deaths
similar approach to Veneto should now be conducted nationwide
need to be much more aggressive in identifying people who are sick at home
need to go to their homes, test them, family, friends, neighbors
all who test positive should be taken out of their homes
