Management of condo under lockdown says unfair to blame foreigners over infections

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | It is unfair to say many people were infected with Covid-19 at Menara City One condominium due to the high concentration of foreigners, said the condominium’s management today.
English daily The Star quoted a spokesperson from the company as saying that only one of those tested positive for Covid-19 at the building was linked to the cluster of the tabligh gathering at Sri Petaling mosque.

Twelve people infected were from a big foreign family living in two separate units in the condominium.

“The 12 people who tested positive for Covid-19 are from just one (foreign) family, so it's not fair to say that many people were infected because the building has a high concentration of foreigners living there.

"The 12 people infected are from a big family, who must have got it via close proximity," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said that the residents of the condominium comprised of 70 percent foreigners who mostly work in and around the Masjid India area.

The management is also helping to buy food and essentials for those in need while the building is under the enhanced movement control order (MCO).

The decision to impose the enhanced MCO on the building came after the Health Ministry reported 17 Covid-19 cases linked to the condominium.

Other than the condominium, several areas in Hulu Langat and two areas in Simpang Renggam are also under the enhanced MCO.

Under the order, residents have to stay at home and no entry and exit movements are allowed in the affected area.

The welfare department would distribute food to the residents from door to door. - Mkini
