CORONAVIRUS | A nationwide drive to disinfect public spaces began today with a focus on Covid-19 hotspots.
The areas of focus for the sanitisation works are the districts of Lembah Pantai, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Seremban, Johor Bahru and Kluang.
These places have recorded the highest concentration of Covid-19 cases.
To date, Petaling has 223 cases, Lembah Pantai 219 cases, Hulu Langat 209 cases, Seremban 108 cases, Johor Bahru 105 cases and Kluang 97 cases.
The Lembah Pantai district includes Bangsar and Pantai Dalam while the Petaling district includes the city or municipal councils of Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya.
Disinfection works were also conducted at Al-Falah mosque at Sungai Ramal Dalam, Kajang.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, who today oversaw the disinfection process in Kajang and Jalan Othman market in Petaling Jaya, said the operation is being led by the Fire and Rescue Department.
They are being assisted by Solid Waste And Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) and local governments.
"The public sanitisation works will be conducted in phases," she said in a press statement.
The first phase, said Zuraida, will be done concurrently in all red zones and followed by orange zones in the second phase.
She said the facilities of focus include public fixtures, markets, walkway, transportation hubs and other related places.
She added that similar works will be done at People' Housing Project (PPR) in red zones.
"The ministry requests that people in the affected areas to offer their cooperation so that the public sanitisation works can be done properly," Zuraida said.
She added that for private premises, sanitisation works must be done by their respective owners. - Mkini
