Malaysiakini

The most popular activities being shared on Facebook and Instagram during this month of Ramadan include cooking for sahur and iftar as well as donating to charity, according to Facebook Malaysia country director Nicole Tan.
“When we look at the popular activities on Facebook and Instagram, 66 percent of the people are cooking for iftar or sahur. Cooking is one of the key activities they are sharing.
“The second one is donating money to charity (62 percent). These two activities are prominent,” Tan said in a Facebook live stream broadcast today.
The third most popular activity being shared on the social media platforms are household duties with 44 percent, she added.
This comes as Muslims in Malaysia are spending the month of Ramadan under the movement control order (MCO) which was implemented on March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19.
However, even under the MCO, Tan said people still want to be inspired by the spirit and traditions of Ramadan.
As such, she said, 93 percent of Malaysians who plan purchases during Ramadan share it with their friends and family through messaging applications.
About 45 percent of Malaysians are also using Facebook to find bargains and promotions, she added.
As Malaysians are staying at home during the MCO, video consumption continues to grow on Facebook, she said.
About 82 percent of Malaysians, she said, use their mobile phones while watching television during Ramadan, with messaging and social media being the top activities while they are “multi-screening”.
