Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Today marked the ninth day for which no new deaths were attributed to the Covid-19 outbreak.
However, there were 30 new Covid-19 cases detected during the 24-hour period ending noon today.
Ten of these cases involved transmissions among Malaysian citizens, while 17 cases involved foreigners. Another three involved Malaysians returning from abroad.
Interestingly, Perak recorded its first new case since May 10. This was a case of local transmission involving a Malaysian.
The bulk of the new cases were detected in Kuala Lumpur (13) followed by Selangor (5), Negeri Sembilan (4) and Putrajaya (4).
It should be noted that Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya all have immigration detention centres where intensive Covid-19 testing efforts are ongoing.
Other states with new cases are Malacca (2) and Johor (1). All three were cases of local transmission among Malaysians.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (above) said this evening there were 95 Covid-19 patients who were discharged over the same period.
Currently, the total number of active Covid-19 cases stands at 1,317 of which 81.6 percent of patients have been discharged.
The number of Covid-19 patients is still trending downwards after the spike in new cases resulting from aggressive testing measures on foreigners.
Today also marks the ninth day for which the number of Covid-19 patients under intensive care is in the single digits. There are currently nine such patients of which two require ventilator support. - Mkini
