Amanah president's son slapped with 8-month prison sentence for drug offence

Malaysiakini

The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court has sentenced Ahmad Saiful Islam Mohamad to eight months in prison after he was found guilty with regard to a drug charge.
The son of Amanah president Mohamad Sabu was convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The section carries a maximum RM5,000 fine and a two-year jail sentence.
According to Berita Harian, Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim ruled that the prosecution had been able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
He also ruled that Saiful, 32, would begin his sentence today and be supervised by the police and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for an additional two years after he completes his sentence.
Saiful was first arrested on Jan 5, 2019, by Dang Wangi police after he was found positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - or marijuana - at around 2.05am at an entertainment centre in a Kuala Lumpur hotel.
He was charged on June 13, 2019.
In January this year, Aizat said the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Saiful and ordered the latter to enter his defence.
Former defence minister Mohamad previously said that he would allow the law to take its course in his son’s case. - Mkini
