Firdaus Abdullah removed as Media Prima managing editor

Malaysiakini

Just three months after being appointed managing editor of Media Prima Television Networks, veteran newsman Firdaus Abdullah has been removed from the role.
In an internal message sighted by Malaysiakini, Firdaus, who is known as a loyalist of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, notified staff that he would be vacating his position as the managing editor of TV Networks Media Prima Berhad effective immediately.
"A short three months plus tenure, but it means a great deal to me, especially as a returning former TV3 broadcast journalist.
"I believe I have carried out my responsibilities in the best interests of an independent media organisation and its professional employees," Firdaus wrote in the note.
"I’m blessed to have had great support, cooperation and teamwork from countless individuals who have gone the extra mile to make things happen.
"I hope the dedication, hard work and determination shown in the last three odd months are further nurtured and carried forward positively," he added, calling on staff to extend their cooperation to whoever comes in to lead them next and to maintain a positive attitude.
Firdaus declined to comment when contacted by Malaysiakini.
It is understood that he has been transferred and remains within the company.
Firdaus began work on March 2, replacing Manja Ismail, who was himself transferred to a Media Prima Bhd subsidiary, Primeworks Studio.
Firdaus is known to be a long-time confidante of Mahathir and is known among political circles for his "Apanama" blog.
He had previously served as an editor at the New Straits Times.
The Media Prima stable of terrestrial television channels are TV3, TV9, 8tv and ntv7.
Media Prima Bhd, the biggest media-focused conglomerate in Malaysia, has been undergoing a restructuring exercise since last November.
The company's revenue has been on a steady downtrend over the past five years. - Mkini
