Mahathir only wants PM post but eff reforms

Malaysiakini:

PKR Youth leader: Dr M 'uninterested' to oust Muhyiddin unless PM bid approved

A Sabah PKR Youth leader claimed that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad appeared "uninterested" in bringing down Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin unless given a chance to helm the nation again.

"In fact, he (Mahathir) and (Sabah Chief Minister and Warisan leader) Shafie Apdal appear to reject plans to continue the agenda of reclaiming back the people's mandate if Harapan did not support Mahathir's bid to become prime minister for the third time," said state PKR Youth secretary Razeef Rakimin.

He further claimed that the apparent rejection raised questions whether Mahathir had secured the needed support from Perikatan Nasional MPs in order to reach the minimum 112 lawmakers for a slim majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said this was on top of the condition that Mahathir would have a six-month stint in office after taking over Putrajaya before passing the reins to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

"The excuse given is that Anwar is president of a multi-racial party and unable to attract majority support from the Malays," added Razeef in a statement today.

He dismissed the reason as being unacceptable.

Anwar in a Facebook live session last night said Harapan did discuss Mahathir as a second option for prime minister in order to secure the numbers to take over Putrajaya.

However, he said the 95-year-old politician does not have the numbers at the moment either.

Anwar also said it would be a difficult for him,as well as for some within PKR to accept the option of Mahathir becoming prime minister again given the broken promises over the handover process when Harapan was in power.
