Ali Biju: Corridor between Putrajaya and Kota Kinabalu now open

Sabahans can expect an uninterrupted and smooth flow of coordinated developmental initiatives, said Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Ali Biju.

This was because Sabahans had voted for a state government that was in tandem with the federal government, said Ali, who is the Saratok MP in neighbouring Sarawak.

Ali, who was in Ranau to campaign for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidates over the past two weeks, said voters were very supportive of the alliance and were yearning for development.

"As a fellow East Malaysian and indigenous native of Borneo, I can relate to the sentiments of the rural native folks in Sabah whose priorities are very similar, if not identical, to ours in Sarawak.

"It is obvious that bread and butter and basic infrastructure issues are still the mainstays of tangible and real current concerns on the ground in the interiors of Sabah. The long outstanding sore point of illegal immigrants was also evidently simmering and a strong undercurrent," he said in a statement.

Ali said he and other east Malaysian indigenous leaders in the federal government must not fail the voters and must become the bridge between the people of Sabah and Putrajaya.

The Ranau area saw a clean sweep by GRS, winning Kundasang, Paginatan and Karanaan.

Ali attributed GRS' victory in Sabah to the "overwhelming" popularity of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

"Together with the Perikatan Nasional state government that the majority of Sabahans mandated at the ballot box yesterday, we must get to work immediately and God willing, deliver without compromise what is expected of us, under the sure and steady premiership of 'Abah' Muhyiddin Yassin," said Ali.

GRS won the Sabah 2020 elections by securing 38 out of 73 seats. They also have the support of three independent lawmakers. - Mkini
