COVID-19 | Several locations in the Klang Valley have recently been affected by Covid-19.
Among them are a sports complex in Kuala Lumpur, an apartment building in Petaling Jaya, a bank, and Klang MP Charles Santiago's office.
A message listing the locations has been making the rounds on social media and WhatsApp.
The Health Ministry has said that the list is inaccurate.
Checks by Malaysiakini found that some of the locations listed did have related Covid-19 cases, while some were false or unverified.
Among the verified locations is Maybank's Kapar branch, which has been closed as a precautionary measure after an employee was believed to have contact with a person under investigation (PUI).
A PUI is someone that the Health Ministry's contract tracers find may have had exposure to the virus and is undergoing screening.
This comes after the Jalan Apas cluster involving eight people in Klang was announced yesterday.
"As part of the bank’s stringent precautionary measures to protect the health and well-being of our customers and employees at all times, the branch is undergoing a thorough sanitisation process in accordance with the appropriate health and safety guidelines," a Maybank spokesperson told Malaysiakini.
Another verified location was the Desa Petaling Sports Complex. Sin Chew on Sunday confirmed with the complex's owner that a participant of a badminton tournament had since tested positive. The location has been disinfected.
Meanwhile, Wangsa Maju PKR chief Andre Lai said that locations linked to the Setapak cluster included the KL Traders Square and Dahlia Apartment in Setapak Jaya.
The Rawang KPJ hospital also issued a statement on Sunday that an asymptomatic patient had on Sept 23 tested positive after undergoing a swab test there.
All personnel who had direct contact with the patient were in full PPE but were nonetheless put under home quarantine for three days.
Meanwhile, one location on the viral list, the Starbucks at Forum Setia Alam has turned out to be false.
When contacted, Starbucks denied there being a Covid-19 case linked to the branch and that the Health Ministry has not alerted them of any cases involving staff or customers.
Forum Setia Alam's management has also issued a statement denying this.
Separately from the viral list, the management of the Park 51 condominium in Petaling Jaya issued a notice yesterday that one of their residents had tested positive.
Klang MP Charles Santiago also said his office would be closed beginning today as a staff member might have come in contact with a Covid-19 cluster.
"My service centre will be closed beginning Sept 29 (today) until further notice.
"One of our staff might be affected by the new cluster in Klang.
"All staff members will undergo Covid-19 test tomorrow morning. Will keep you in the loop," he said in a Twitter post.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry said the Jalan Apas cluster in Klang was traced to a couple (cases 10,782 and 10,783) who had visited Sabah.
They visited Tawau and Semporna from Sept 13 to 16 and began to show symptoms of fever, coughing, and flu on Sept 18. They sought treatment at a medical centre on Sept 19.
They were referred to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang on Sept 24 and were confirmed positive on Sept 26. Subsequently, they were transferred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
Following the discovery, contact-tracing was initiated on Sept 27, which found another six people to be positive with Covid-19.
The six include two secondary school students who are siblings of one of the index cases.
The two are students of SMK Pandamaran Jaya in Port Klang.
Both their classrooms have been sanitised, and the schooling session is proceeding as normal, according to the Selangor Education Department. - Mkini
