Zuraida under quarantine after event attendee found Covid-19 positive

COVID-19 | Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin is under home quarantine after attending a programme where a Covid-19 positive individual was also present, her aide said.

Her political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad clarified that the quarantine, however, had nothing to do with her visit to Sabah for the state election.

"Zuraida returned from Sabah on Sept 26 and was tested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 upon arrival, which returned a negative result. The next day, she attended a programme in Langkawi in the morning before returning to Kuala Lumpur later in the evening.

"On Sept 28, the minister attended the Malaysia Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur, only to be informed that evening that there was a positive case detected at the Langkawi programme she attended.

"On the morning of Sept 29, Zuraida once again took a swab test, which also returned negative. She is now undergoing self-quarantine at her residence for 14 days as per the Health Ministry's advice," Hizwan said in a statement today.

He had also sent out a copy of Zuraida's test result for the media's reference.

The Ampang MP became the latest political figure to quarantine after being in close contact with an infected person.

In May, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was placed under a 14-day home quarantine after attending a meeting with a Covid-19 patient.

Recently, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also had to quarantine himself after being in close contact with another Umno leader who had contracted the coronavirus. - Mkini
