Redzuan: No one-off Covid-19 payment for hospital cleaners

The suggestion by PKR MP Fahmi Fadzil for hospital cleaners a receive a one-off payment of RM300 each was rejected yesterday by Special Functions Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

Redzuan (Bersatu-Alor Gajah) said during the Dewan Rakyat sitting that it is the government’s policy that only doctors, nurses and medical personnel dealing directly with Covid-19 high-risk groups and patients are eligible for the one-off payment and not hospital cleaners.

"The granting of the one-off payment of RM300 was approved taking into account the financial capabilities of the country," said Redzuan.

He also said the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) was looking into giving members of the media a special allowance for the risks they faced while on duty in high-risk zones during the pandemic.

"Nadma is studying this so that we can have a small allocation for them," he said.

Fahmi had also proposed that the one-off assistance of RM300 for police personnel be increased to RM500.

Redzuan indicated that this was unlikely, especially since they have been receiving a special allowance of RM200 per month beginning in April. - Mkini
