'Shameless' Guan Eng still thinks he's Penang CM, says Wee

The exchange of barbs between Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong and former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has escalated with Wee saying that Lim is still acting as if he is helming Penang.

“Many Penangites are confused and are wondering if there are two chief ministers, with Chow Kon Yeow being the weekday chief minister while Lim Guan Eng acts as the weekend chief minister.

“The Penang chief minister recognised by the federal government is Chow Kon Yeow,” Wee said in a post on his Facebook page in which he blasted Lim as being 'shameless' over the Penang ferry issue.

Wee, who is also MCA president, said that the Pakatan Harapan government also agreed to replace the Penang ferry service with catamaran vessels and that Lim’s own sister, Senator Lim Hui Ying, also agreed with this move.

"Looks like the Lim family should call for a family meeting to standardise their views," Wee added.

The car-carrying ferry service is expected to cease operations on Dec 31 and would be replaced by smaller transports meant only for pedestrians and motorcycles.

Wee said that replacing the iconic ferry service, which is prone to breakdowns, with catamarans is a more practical move to protect the safety of Penangites and more beneficial to Penang’s travel and transport industries.

"Whatever decision about the ferry service, (Finance Minister) Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and I will discuss with the real Chief Minister Chow," Wee said.

He went on to accuse Lim of damaging Penang by carrying out land reclamation and destroying Penang's hills.

Earlier Lim had said that plans to cancel the iconic 126-year-old Penang ferry service at the end of the year proved that the PN government was in “open confrontation” with the people of Penang, with Wee leading the charge.

Lim, who is also Bagan MP, went on to allege that there were several other development projects approved by the Harapan government which were cancelled by the PN administration.

Penangites and their children would never forgive MCA and Wee, he added. - Mkini
