Video on unhygienic handling of Bengali bread goes viral

GEORGE TOWN: A video showing two workers loading loaves of "roti Bengali" by just throwing them at the back of a van has gone viral.

The workers, believed to be employed by a bakery in Air Itam, were seen using their bare hands transferring the bread from carton boxes and "dumping" them at the back of a van.

It is not known when the video was taken but a woman's voice could be heard in the video narrating the incident.

"How could they handle the bread this way with their sweaty hands, without any plastic or container to put the loaves of bread.

"It's disgusting and how could people be eating this bread," said the woman.

The workers were, however, oblivious to the video being taken and continued loading the loaves.

A manager of the bakery, who refused to be identified, said he could not ascertain if the workers were from his bakery as they could be agents who sourced from various bakeries.

"We will need to check as they could have bought from us, stored and loaded them at a different place," he added.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) licensing director Rashidah Jalaludin could not be reached for comment on the issue. - Star
