SEREMBAN: An MP has asked parents and teachers to provide their views on measures to enable all school and university students to get the best education in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jelebu MP Jalaluddin Alias, who heads a parliamentary special select committee on education, said he was soliciting views of parents, teachers and others in view of concerns expressed recently about problems faced by schoolchildren undergoing home-based lessons.

“I see the challenge of uncertainty in education during this unpredictable Covid-19 times. Many parents in both urban and rural areas complain about their children’s education and their concerns for the future generations due to disruption in education at the primary, secondary and university levels due to lack of classes.

“The problems of rural students in terms of internet access, lack of devices and the ability of parents to provide educational facilities needs to be addressed,” he said.

Jalaluddin said all the views would be formulated at the committee level before being submitted to the government for consideration.

He said he also sought views on the effectiveness of the home-based learning programme (PdPR) as well as health and hygiene protocols implemented at schools. - FMT
