At least three more Amanah elected reps join PKR

At least three more elected representatives from Amanah have joined PKR, a partner party in Pakatan Harapan.

This comes three months after two Selangor assemblypersons also made the jump from Amanah to PKR.

The latest three to join PKR were Johor assemblypersons Khairuddin A Rahim (Senggarang), Muhamad Said Jonit (Mahkota), and Faizul Amri Adnan (Serom).

This was confirmed to Malaysiakini by Khairuddin and three PKR sources.

When contacted, the Senggarang assemblyperson said he had joined PKR in September, and this was approved by October, but had kept it under wraps to preserve the relations between his new and old party.

He hoped that as a PKR member now, he would have the opportunity to contest at the parliamentary level.

“I want to contest for Parliament. Parliament seats for Amanah in Johor are limited,” he told Malaysiakini.

“I hope to be given the opportunity. This is a struggle for the people. I fight for the people,” he added.

Senggarang is in the Batu Pahat parliamentary constituency. The current Batu Pahat MP Rashid Hasnon had won the seat while a member of PKR. He defected to Bersatu last year.

Malaysiakini is still awaiting a response from Said and Faizul.

Faizul had resigned from his Amanah posts last year, due to dissatisfaction with the Johor party leadership. He vowed not to contest in the next general election for Amanah.

Last year, two Selangor assemblypersons from Amanah - Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar (Meru) and Ahmad Mustain Othman (Sabak) - had also joined PKR.

Mustain had been sacked from the party over alleged disciplinary violations.

Earlier today, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said that with Parliament possibly reconvening soon, certain parties had stepped up efforts to convince opposition MPs to jump ship. - Mkini
