Bersatu promises not to contest in Sarawak - Masing

Bersatu has already assured Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) that it will not contest in the next Sarawak state election or the 15th general election.

This was confirmed by Parti Rakyat Sarawak president James Masing (above).

“Bersatu also gave its assurance not to contest in Sarawak in the state elections or the general election, and this guarantee was given by Perikatan Nasional (PN) last year.

“We (GPS) hope they stand firm to their promise,” Masing said, as reported by Astro Awani today.

The Sarawak deputy chief minister also said that if Bersatu failed to live up to its promise, GPS will defend their rights without compromise.

“A promise is a promise. Do not ever break it for your (Bersatu’s) own political interest.

“If they insist on breaking the promise, we have no choice but to defend the interests of Sarawak because that is something non-negotiable,” Masing added.

Last July, Masing had issued a similar statement about a promise from Bersatu and PAS not to contest in Sarawak in the state and general elections.

This agreement was reached in a meeting involving all the highest leadership from GPS and PN on July 1, 2020. - Mkini
