PETALING JAYA: Some 180,000 non-pensionable ex-servicemen will also be given the special Hari Raya aid of RM250 to ease their financial burden during these difficult times.

PSD director-general Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman said in a circular last week that this category of former government employees would be included in the list that already has civil servants and government pensioners.

This will cost the government an additional RM45 million.

Last week, the prime minister’s office announced that civil servants up to Grade 56 would receive a special Hari Raya aid of RM500 each, adding that pensioners will be given RM250.

It said the payment would be credited on May 6, together with the month’s early salary in view of Hari Raya falling on May 15.

“This aid is a form of appreciation towards the sacrifices of civil servants in delivering services to the people, especially during these challenging times.

“The aid is given earlier compared with previous years as the government wants to help the people with their preparations for Hari Raya celebrations.

“The government hopes this special assistance will ease the financial burden of civil servants and motivate them to continue to serve with full dedication,” the PMO said in a statement.

The RM500 assistance also applies to contract and temporary staff, as well appointments under MySTEP (the Short-Term Employment Programme). - FMT
