Fight involving quarantined workers leaves one dead in Banting

 


A fight between five foreign workers placed under Covid-19 quarantine in Banting, Selangor left one dead and two others with stab wounds.

According to police, the brawl broke out at around 9pm yesterday at a construction site at Bandar Perindustrian Mahkota in Banting, Selangor following an argument over the removal of the victim's belongings from a room inside their kongsi (shared quarters).

Kuala Langat district police chief Azizan Tukiman said the five were among 30 workers placed under isolation at the quarters located not far away from their temporary housing. They were tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.

"The fight occurred between five Bangladeshi men with three of them including the deceased fighting against two others. Investigations found that the deceased was upset when his belongings were removed from his quarters without his permission.

"They had an argument and this led to a fight. The suspect then took a screwdriver and stabbed the victim and it is believed the weapon punctured his heart and caused the 44-year-old victim to die at the scene.

"Two friends of the deceased were also stabbed using the same weapon and they suffered abdominal wounds," he said.

The suspect and his friend then fled the scene, say police adding the duo was tracked to Taman Manggis Jaya where they were arrested them 3.30am this morning.

Both suspects in their 40s are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - Mkini
