Four villages in Sabah under two-week EMCO lockdown

 

EMCO in Kampung Tanjung Kapor, Kampung Assam, Kampung Payas-Payas and Kampung Rampayan Laut will start from June 1 until June 14. 

PETALING JAYA: Several villages in Sabah will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) lockdown from June 1 until June 14, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

The villages are:

  • Kampung Tanjung Kapor in Kudat – 10 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded during the screening of 24 people.
  • Kampung Assam in Lahad Datu – 10 positive cases were recorded during the screening of 13 people.
  • Kampung Payas-Payas and Kampung Rampayan Laut in Kota Belud – 21 positive cases were detected.

The EMCO at Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah in Jitra, Kedah, will be extended until June 14 after the health ministry said there were still new cases being detected in both localities.

Ismail said police arrested 749 people yesterday over MCO-related offences.

Of that number, 729 were slapped with compound fines, 18 remanded and two granted bail.

The offences included failing to wear face masks (180), failing to observe physical distancing (138), failing to register personal details prior to entering premises (120), carrying too many passengers (55), and others (256).

The authorities also seized three vehicles yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng.

Ismail added that in Pahang, EMCO in 16 localities in Sungai Ruan and seven localities in Sempali, Raub will end on June 4. - FMT
