Reveal truth about other cases before you go, IGP told

Mohd Puad Zarkashi said he would ‘salute’ outgoing IGP Abdul Hamid Bador if he dared shed light on whether there was political interference in other outstanding cases.

PETALING JAYA: Outgoing Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador has been urged to reveal the “true story” behind several prominent cases before he clocks out as the nation’s top cop tomorrow.

Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi, who made the call, said these cases include a sex tape allegedly implicating senior minister Mohamed Azmin Ali and the failure to bring to justice 1MDB mastermind Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.

The other cases he mentioned included the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim after a riot at the Seafield temple in Subang Jaya, and former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz’s husband’s alleged links to the 1MDB affair.

Puad said he would “salute” Hamid if he dared shed light on whether there was political interference in these cases.

“Was there political interference? Hamid was willing to reveal the political interference in the police force.

“Please tell the true story of these other cases, too.”

For the record, Azmin has denied involvement in the sex tape. Then attorney-general Tommy Thomas decided against taking any action on those linked to the video as the identities of those in the footage could not be determined.

On finding Jho Low, Hamid had stated that the lack of cooperation among international investigative and enforcement agencies hindered the fugitive businessman’s capture.

On Adib’s death, Hamid has said that no reliable eye-witness had been found to the incident that led to the fireman’s death.

As for the investigations into Zeti’s husband, Tawfiq Ayman, that involves the transfer of 1MDB funds to bank accounts he owned in Singapore, investigations are said to be ongoing.

Hamid, who retires on Monday, recently dropped a bombshell that home minister Hamzah Zainudin had been interfering in police matters. - FMT
