JELI: The investigation paper on Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed's alleged standard operating procedure (SOP) violation under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan, has been submitted to deputy public prosecutor.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Arifin said the investigation paper was submitted to the deputy public prosecutor today for further action.
"We (police) are now waiting for further instruction from the deputy public prosecutor," he said.Ahmad said police have recorded statements from seven individuals including Mustapa who is Jeli MP, and a cafe owner where the alleged violation took place to assist their investigation into the case.
"They were summoned to the district police station separately between noon and yesterday evening," he added.
Ahmad said the case was being investigated under the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021.
Mustapa on Monday night apologised for violating the SOP.
In a statement issued by his office, it was stated that the minister had apologised for breaching the SOP and would leave it to the police to take the next course of action.
Seeking to allay further allegations, Mustapa said he had stopped by a cafe in Kampung Kalai, Jeli, in Kelantan around 5.30pm on Saturday to observe how a young restaurateur managed to sustain his business despite the ongoing movement control order (MCO).
"The young fellow aged 26-years-old used social media to market his Western cuisine menu.
"Datuk Seri Mustapa admitted to being at the cafè and was served a meal at the Alfath Cafe last Saturday.
"Following pictures of him at the cafè going viral, Jeli district police chief had contacted him to inform him that an investigation paper had been opened," said the statement. - NST
