Where’s the aid for the M40, asks Najib

Najib Razak quipped that it’s a total lockdown for everyone, except the 95,142 companies that have been allowed to operate.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has taken a jab at the government over the lack of financial assistance for the middle 40 group (M40).

In a Facebook post, Najib noted that those earning between RM4,850 to RM10,959 a month would not receive anything from the latest Pemerkasa Plus package for the total lockdown.

These include no loan moratoriums, no electricity discounts, no free Astro services and no cash handouts.

Najib also pointed out the absence of a second round for the i-Sinar and i-Lestari withdrawal facilities for Employees Provident Fund members.

“What form of assistance will be given to the M40 group this round?” he asked.

He also quipped that it was a total lockdown for everyone, except the 95,142 companies that have been allowed to operate throughout the lockdown from today to June 14.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the RM40 billion Pemerkasa Plus relief package to help people and businesses through the national lockdown.

It involves RM5 billion in direct fiscal injection, with those in the B40 affected by loss of income as well as SMEs not operating during the lockdown being eligible for a three-month automatic loan moratorium. - FMT
