Yusoff Rawther, 2 Anwar-linked personalities in mediation over lawsuits

Mediation is ongoing between Muhammad Yusoff Rawther and two personalities linked to Anwar Ibrahim over the lawsuits in relation to an alleged brawl at the PKR president’s office two years ago.

Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla told Malaysiakini recently that the former research officer is in talks with Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak and Tunku Nashrul Tunku Abaidah, who are Anwar’s political aide and press-secretary respectively.

Haniff is acting for Yusoff (above), who is suing Farhash and Nashrul. The suits are now before the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

“There is a mediation already attempted and initiated. We look forward to a positive outcome. But at this moment, we cannot confirm the outcome as the mediation is yet to be concluded,” Haniff said, adding that the legal teams are still getting instructions from their respective clients.

Lawyer Muhammad Azwar Ab Manab, who acted for Farhash and Nashrul, also confirmed to Malaysiakini that his two clients are in mediation talks to try to settle the matter.

“We are in mediation. Parties in the mediation process are trying to reach a positive outcome,” the lawyer said.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, lawyer T Kumar revealed that the mediation talks also include a separate but related defamation suit by Farhash against Yusoff.

The defamation suit is pending before the Kuala Lumpur High Court. Kumar acts for Farhash in this legal action.

Yusoff’s suit against Farhash and Nashrul, filed at the Shah Alam Sessions Court), is in regard to the alleged incident at Anwar’s office at Bukit Gasing in May two years ago.

Yusoff, who claimed to have at one point been Anwar's research assistant, came into the limelight in 2019 when he alleged he was physically assaulted at Anwar’s office and claimed at a press conference on Dec 3 that same year that he was sexually assaulted by Anwar.

On Jan 14 last year, the Attorney-General’s Chambers announced that no charges would be levelled against Anwar due to a lack of evidence.

Ten days later on Jan 24, Farhash filed a defamation suit against Yusoff in relation to the press conference.

On Feb 20 last year, it was reported that the police reopened the probe into the alleged assault against Yusoff.

It was also reported that Anwar was a potential witness in Yusoff’s suit against Farhash. - Mkini
