Annuar: Free parking in KL until Merdeka Day

Roadside parking in Kuala Lumpur will be made free until Merdeka Day, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

"Parking space users need not pay anything. I hope that the savings can be used for necessities at home," said Annuar.

Officially, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has not made any announcement to this effect.

Apart from DBKL, there was a similar initiative by the Kota Bharu City Council since June 1.

However, the reason for this in Kota Bharu, Kelantan was due to the fact that parking attendants were not listed as "essential services".

This prevented the private company on contract to deploy its parking attendants.

Twitter users reacted to Annuar's announcement with an equal amount of happiness and incredulity.

Opponents tended to argue that "total lockdown" meant free parking was of little use for most. - Mkini
