The Housing and Local Government Ministry today stressed that it was not involved in an advertisement offering "Lestari Pinjaman Peribadi KPKT" (Lestari Personal Loan) personal financing to the public.
The clarification was issued following an advertisement that went viral on Facebook which used the ministry's logo and a licensed Community Credit company registered under the Money Lenders Act 1951 (Act 400).
"The ministry takes a serious view of any licensed or unlicensed moneylender or company that misuses the ministry's logo (coat of arms), Community Credit logo and moneylender's licence for fraudulent purposes," the ministry said in a statement today.
It added that it will conduct an investigation and hand over the matter to the police for further action against the irresponsible parties involved.
The ministry also lodged a complaint with the Communications and Multimedia Commission, it said.
As such, the ministry advised the public to be careful in accepting any loan offer and contact the ministry's Community Credit Control Division at 03-8891 4690/4658/4708 or submit a complaint through https://aduan.kpkt.gov.my or via the mobile application KrediKom.
