KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of protesters clad in black have gathered outside Masjid Jamek ahead of a march to Dataran Merdeka for the #Lawan protest.
Police have cordoned off roads leading to Dataran Merdeka ahead of the protest seeking the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Numerous protesters are carrying banners and placards which read ‘Kerajaan Gagal’ (‘Failed Government’).
Chants of “Tolak Muhyiddin”, “Letak Jawatan” and “Bangkit Rakyat” echoed as protesters began to make their way to Dataran Merdeka.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua was among the politicians who showed up, saying he was there in solidarity with the protesters, who were mostly youths.
The former Batu MP told FMT that he would like to see more Malaysians and youths speak out against injustice and to push for change in Putrajaya.
“We’re seeing the emergence of a new wave of youth activism. This is something that we should be very proud of,” he said when met at the protest. - FMT
